HFPA Membership Benefits

  • The HFPA is pleased to announce that Members now have another benefit through the HFPA Legal Services Program:  Specialized counsel for trademark, copyright and related intellectual property issues as well as legal review of advertising and packaging claims.  This additional benefit of HFPA membership is designed to give you professional, efficient and cost-effective legal services in this critical area.
    • Many of us know the distress and disruption of receiving a cease and desist letter – let alone a lawsuit for trademark or copyright infringement.  Or the anger at  seeing your own brands and designs copied and marketed through online marketplaces.  Best practices are to clear and file applications to register your trademarks in advance and secure copyright registrations for artwork because these registrations offer invaluable benefits.
    • Rich Jacobson of Jacobson Law Group, LLC is offering flat fee rates for copyright applications and for trademark services, including knockout and comprehensive searches, preparing and filing applications and shepherding them through to registration.  For more complex matters, such as infringements or evaluating marketing claims, Rich’s experienced hand will guide you to strategic and practical solutions.   Rich is a highly-experienced attorney that is familiar with the home fashion industry and the issues we face.  His proactive and preventative approach is ideally suited to our membership.
    • Please view the Jacobson Law Group Fee Schedule for 2021.  HFPA members can take advantage of this new benefit by contacting Rich for a complimentary initial consultation by email at Rich@JacobsonTrademark.com or phone at 212.519.7733.
  • Industry Advocacy and Communications
    • HFPA monitors and communicates about key state and federal legislative issues, such as Proposition 65 and more recently, on the pending tariffs on home textiles products.
      • HFPA President, Jeff Kaufman, President/COO of Avanti Linens, testified on June 17 in front the USTR committee on the proposed List 4 tariffs.  Jeff’s testimony shed light on the negative impact List 4 will have on consumers, buyers, jobs in the industry and more.  You can read his testimony in full on our website, homefashionproducts.org.
      • HFPA Secretary, Scott Goldstein, President of S. Lichtenberg, was featured on CNBC to talk with a correspondent about the inability to move sourcing for window coverings out of China.  You can watch the clip on: https://www.cnbc.com/video/2019/06/20/textile-co-president-on-proposed-tariffs-a-tax-on-the-consumer.html
    • HFPA sent letters to the President and Congress regarding the negative impact of a trade war and recently joined a coalition of over 100 other concerned trade associations and groups.
    • 295 5th Avenue, home to much of the Textile Industry, is currently in the process of changing ownership. HFPA is taking the lead to help organize 295 5th tenants to present a united front and maximize the tenants’ options in this unsettled situation.
